How well are your sole trader accounts set up right now?

Four questions. Takes about 60 seconds. Find out where your accounts actually stand.

How are you currently keeping track of your business income and expenses?

How confident are you about what you can and cannot claim as a business expense?

Are you aware of Making Tax Digital for Income Tax and whether it will apply to your business?

When did you last feel fully on top of your accounts with no outstanding catch-up needed?

YOUR RESULT

Your accounts need attention before they become a bigger problem

Based on your answers, your records are not where HMRC needs them to be. That is not unusual for a sole trader who is focused on doing the actual work, but it does carry real risk: late filing penalties, missed expense claims, and a difficult tax return at year end. A free call with me takes 20 minutes and I will tell you exactly where you stand and what needs doing first.

YOUR RESULT

You have made a start, but there are gaps worth fixing

You are doing some things right, but there are areas where your accounts could be more accurate and more tax-efficient. With Making Tax Digital for Income Tax applying to sole traders earning over £50,000 from April 2026, now is a practical time to get the right setup in place. I can review your current approach and tell you what I would change.

YOUR RESULT

Your accounts are in good shape. You are in the right place.

Your current setup sounds organised. If you are here because you want a reliable bookkeeper to maintain that standard for you going forward, I offer fixed monthly pricing and handle everything personally. Book a free call and we can discuss whether I am the right fit.

WHAT I DO

What I handle for sole traders

Each service is carried out by me personally. There is no team, no handoff, and no one else you need to explain your business to.

01

Monthly Bookkeeping

I keep your income and expenses recorded accurately in Xero each month, so your accounts are always current and your tax position is never a surprise. You know exactly what has gone in, what has gone out, and what you owe HMRC at any point.

From £25/month
02

Self Assessment Tax Return

I prepare and file your Self Assessment tax return directly with HMRC, using the records I keep for you throughout the year. Because I know your books, there is no scramble at year end and no risk of errors from pulling figures together in a hurry.

Annual filing included
03

Xero Setup and MTD Compliance

I set up Xero so it connects to your bank and records transactions automatically, and I make sure your setup meets the Making Tax Digital requirements ahead of the phased rollout. From April 2026, sole traders earning over £50,000 must use MTD-recognised software for quarterly reporting, and I make sure that is handled correctly.

WHY IT WORKS

Why working with a dedicated bookkeeper makes a difference

Generic software and once-a-year accountants leave most sole traders managing more than they should. Here is what changes when someone is looking after your books consistently.

You deal directly with me, every time

There is no junior staff member, no client portal with a different face each month, and no time wasted re-explaining your business. I know your accounts because I am the one who keeps them, and you can reach me directly when you have a question.

Fixed monthly pricing with no surprises

Pricing starts at £25 per month and is agreed upfront, so you know exactly what you are paying. There are no hourly rates, no invoices that are larger than expected, and no awkward conversations about scope.

Your accounts stay compliant year-round

I keep your records up to date in Xero and handle every HMRC submission on time, including Self Assessment filings and VAT returns where applicable. You do not need to track deadlines or chase documents. I do that for you.

GETTING STARTED

How we get started

Four straightforward steps from first contact to having your accounts properly in hand.

01

Book a free call

You book a free 20-minute call at a time that suits you. I ask about your business, your current setup, and what you actually need. There is no obligation and no sales pressure.

02

I review your current records

Before we agree anything, I look at where your accounts currently stand. If there is catch-up work needed, I tell you upfront what is involved and what it will cost.

03

We agree a fixed monthly price

Once I understand your business, I put together a fixed monthly price that covers everything we have agreed. Pricing starts at £25 per month and is confirmed in writing before anything starts.

04

I take care of everything from there

Your books are kept in Xero each month, your submissions go to HMRC on time, and you can contact me directly whenever you need to. You focus on your work. I focus on your accounts.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common questions

Yes. Many sole traders I work with come to me mid-year or with a backlog. I will assess what is there, tell you what needs sorting, and give you a clear price for the catch-up work before we start. Starting from a messy position is not a problem as long as we know what we are dealing with.
For most sole traders, a bookkeeper who handles your monthly records and files your Self Assessment is all you need. I prepare and submit Self Assessment tax returns as part of my service, which covers the main compliance requirement for sole traders. If your circumstances become more complex, I will tell you honestly if a chartered accountant is needed.
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax requires sole traders with total annual income over £50,000 to keep digital records and send quarterly updates to HMRC, starting from 6 April 2026. The threshold drops to £30,000 in 2027 and £20,000 in 2028. If you are approaching any of those thresholds, I can make sure your Xero setup meets the requirements now so there is nothing to worry about when the deadline arrives.
HMRC requires you to keep records of all business income and all allowable expenses. Those records must be kept for at least five years after the 31 January filing deadline for the relevant tax year. From the 2024 to 2025 tax year, cash basis accounting is the default method, which means you record income and expenses when money actually moves rather than when invoices are issued. I handle all of this as part of your monthly bookkeeping.
