Your Self Assessment, Filed Accurately and On Time, Every Time
Self assessment tax return deadlines do not move, but most sole traders and freelancers spend January scrambling to meet them alone.
I handle your self assessment personally, from gathering your figures to submitting your return to HMRC. You deal directly with me, there is no handoff to a junior and no chasing a faceless portal for updates.
Is your self assessment in good shape for this tax year?
Four questions. Under 90 seconds. Find out where you actually stand.
How organised are your income records for the current tax year?
Do you know which of your business expenses are allowable against tax?
Are you registered for Self Assessment with HMRC?
Are you aware of the new Making Tax Digital for Income Tax rules starting April 2026?
Your self assessment situation needs attention now
Your records are not in order, your expenses may not be optimised, and a major compliance change is on the way. Filing a self assessment in this position carries a real risk of errors, missed deductions and HMRC penalties. A free call with me is the most useful thing you can do today.
You have made a start, but there are gaps that could cost you
You are not starting from scratch, but incomplete records and uncertainty about expenses mean your return may not be as accurate as it should be. Getting someone to review what you have before you file can make a material difference to your tax bill.
Your foundations are solid and we can keep them that way
You are organised and aware, which puts you ahead of most sole traders. The priority now is making sure your return is filed correctly, your records are MTD-ready, and nothing slips through ahead of the 31 January deadline.
What I handle for you, from first figures to final submission
Everything is done by me directly. No third-party software left to run itself, no junior doing the work, just one bookkeeper who knows your numbers.
Self Assessment Preparation and Filing
I pull together your income, expenses and any other relevant figures, check everything is accurate, and submit your self assessment tax return to HMRC before the deadline. You receive a clear summary of what was filed and what tax is owed, explained in plain English.
Core ServiceBookkeeping to Support Your Return
Accurate self assessment starts with accurate records throughout the year. I offer monthly and quarterly bookkeeping using Xero so that when your return is due, everything is already in order and there is no last-minute scramble.
Year-Round SupportMaking Tax Digital for Income Tax Setup
From 6 April 2026, sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over 50,000 pounds must keep digital records and submit quarterly updates to HMRC under MTD for Income Tax. I will set up your Xero account, check your compliance position, and make sure your quarterly submissions are handled on time.
MTD CompliantWhy working with me is different from filing it yourself
Filing your own self assessment is legal. Filing it incorrectly or incompletely is where the problems start.
You speak to the person doing the work
There is no team at Acme Accounting Services. Every client deals directly with me, Ben Kennell. When you have a question about your return, you ring me and I answer it. There is no account manager relaying messages or a support inbox that takes three days to respond.
Fixed pricing with no surprise bills
Pricing starts from 25 pounds per month and is agreed upfront. You know what you are paying before any work begins, which makes it straightforward to plan for and easy to compare against the cost of filing incorrectly.
Deadlines are tracked for you, not by you
The online self assessment deadline is 31 January. First-time filers must register with HMRC by 5 October. Late filing attracts a 100 pound penalty immediately, even if no tax is owed. I track these dates for you and make sure nothing is missed.
What clients say about working with me
How I handle your self assessment from start to finish
A straightforward four-step process so you always know where things stand.
Book a free call
We talk through your situation, your income sources, your expenses, and whether you are already registered for self assessment. I give you a clear picture of what is needed and what it will cost.
Send me your records
You send me your income figures, bank statements, expense records and any other relevant documents. If your bookkeeping is already on Xero, I can access everything directly. If not, I will tell you exactly what to send.
I prepare and review your return
I work through your figures, identify allowable expenses, check for anything that might trigger an HMRC query, and prepare your return accurately. I will come back to you if anything needs clarifying before I file.
Your return is submitted and confirmed
I submit your self assessment to HMRC and send you a summary of what was filed and what tax you owe and when it is due. You are not left wondering what happened or what comes next.
